ROAD TRIP DOC SERIES EXPLORES SOME OF SASKATCHEWAN’S LESSER KNOWN INDIGENOUS HEROES

Trevor Cameron’s spin off series, Shadow Of…, premieres on Citytv Saskatchewan

27 June 2022 (Saskatoon) - Saskatoon’s KarmaFilm and Métis director Trevor Cameron present a documentary series exploring the legacies of four of Saskatchewan’s lesser known Indigenous historical figures.

Jim Brady

Trevor travels to the North to learn about the life and legacy of James Brady, a Metis political organizer who disappeared in Saskatchewan’s North. He finds that Brady’s life and legacy are much broader than originally thought.

Mary Ann Lavalleé

Trevor learns about Mary Ann Lavallee, a Cree woman, whose grassroots social justice actions influenced Indigenous farming, schooling, and human rights on her reserve of Cowessess and across Canada.

Édouard Beaupré

Trevor travels to Willow Bunch Saskatchewan to investigate the life and legacy of Edouard Beaupre, Canada’s tallest man more than a century ago, leading him to Montreal where he learns about the macabre display that kept him famous long after his death.

Mary Greyeyes

Mary Greyeyes is the first Indigenous woman in the Canadian Army and although her legacy is often overshadowed by Indigenous fighting men of the Army, her interesting story draws Trevor to look at his own family’s relationship with the Canadian Forces.

I went looking for lesser known Indigenous figures in Saskatchewan’s history to pull their stories into the light and celebrate their accomplishments. My interest and love of these figures made for an enlightening journey into our shared histories.
