OUR BIG PUNJABI FAMILY Completes Filming In Regina

Our Big Punjabi Family an upcoming multi-cultural series has completed filming in Regina.
The project is the latest to receive financial support from the Government of Saskatchewan. This comes specifically from Creative Saskatchewan feature film and television production grant program.
Our Big Punjabi Family received $746,818 in funding for labour, goods and services purchased locally. Thanks to the post production also taking place in Regina it is expected that around $3.5 million will be generated for the local economy.
Creative Saskatchewan CEO Erin Dean had this to say in a media release.
“We’re very excited to see the snowball-effects of investment. Once we announced that Saskatchewan was open for film and television business, the phones have been ringing off the hook. It’s amazing to see local producers leveraging the opportunities, and to connect with new producers who may not have considered Saskatchewan as a film location before now.”
Our Big Punjabi Family is a South Asian comedy exploring Indo-Canadian family life. The series — to be delivered in English and Punjabi — follows a large multi-generational family that’s forced to live together under one roof due to the high cost of the Canadian housing market.
Leena Manro and award-winning director Agam Darshi wrote the series. Manro serves as showrunner, with Anand Ramayya and Kelly Balon (both Karma Film Inc.) producing. Other recent projects from Karma filmed in Saskatchewan include award winning drama Donkeyhead and upcoming graphic novel adaption King of Killers.
Kelly Balon released the following statement:
“I’m always looking for opportunities to bring productions home and thrilled to be a part of Saskatchewan’s economic growth, especially with content from underrepresented creators,” “The more productions we can bring into the province, the stronger the industry becomes in this renaissance of screen-based opportunity. This is just the beginning.”
There is no confirmed date or broadcaster for the show at present.
